K9 GLADIATORS TOURNAMENTS POLICIES & RULES

(Class 1 Policy)
Drug & Alcohol Policy:

The use or possession of alcohol, marijuana, or illegal drugs is strictly prohibited at all K9 Gladiators events. There are no exceptions to this policy.

Any K9 Gladiators judge, staff member, or steward who observes such conduct has the authority to issue an immediate suspension on-site. A written report will also be submitted to the Grievance Committee for further disciplinary review and possible additional action.

Tournament Competition Dress Code:

Trial Attire

All K9 Gladiators competitors handling a K9 during competition are required to wear appropriate athletic clothing suitable for weather conditions, safety, and performance.

The following attire is prohibited during trials:

· Ragged or excessively torn clothing

· Flip-flops

· Dress shoes

· Open-toed shoes or sandals

· High heels

· Clothing displaying offensive or hateful language or imagery

Competitors are expected to wear standard athletic attire that allows safe and professional participation during all events and scenarios.

K9 Gladiators encourages all competitors to present themselves professionally and recommends wearing club apparel or official K9 Gladiators shirts whenever possible.

The judge or steward may require a competitor to change any attire deemed inappropriate in order to maintain the professional image and standards of K9 Gladiators.

K9 Gladiators Tournament Rules:

1.    The handler may not duck, dodge, or avoid the joust stick.

2.    Once the handler’s pivot foot is placed on the designated spot, it may not be lifted or moved.

3.    The handler may not restrain the K9 from engaging distractions.

4.    Once alerted, the K9 must remain focused on the decoy/threat.

5.    The handler must secure the leash and hand at the waist with no forward or backward movement.

6.    One alert command is allowed without deduction. Additional commands result in deductions.

7.    The decoy will throw three distraction items toward the K9.

8.    If the K9 eats food or engages with the tug or ball, 50% of the points will be deducted.

9.    If the handler is touched with the joust stick within 30 seconds, the team is disqualified (DQ).

10. Excessive handler assistance will result in major deductions or DQ.

11. The exercise lasts 30 seconds. Teams that successfully complete the scenario receive full points.

12. Starting without the field judge’s signal results in automatic DQ.

General Rules

· All handlers, decoys, spectators, and participants must conduct themselves professionally and respectfully at all times.

· Aggressive, dishonest, reckless, or unsportsmanlike behavior may result in disqualification or removal from the event.

· Judges’ decisions are final.

· K9 Gladiators Tournaments reserves the right to refuse entry or remove any person or dog for safety or conduct concerns.

Membership Requirements

· All competitors must be active K9 Gladiators members before entering any tournament.

· Membership fees are non-refundable unless approved by K9 Gladiators administration.

· Competitors must sign all required waivers before participation.

Dog Eligibility

· Dogs must be healthy, physically fit, and free from contagious illness or injury.

· Female dogs in heat may be restricted from competition areas.

· Dogs showing unsafe aggression outside of competition scenarios may be removed from the event.

· Handlers are fully responsible for the actions and control of their dogs at all times.

Equipment Rules

· Approved training and competition equipment only.

· Hidden or unauthorized equipment is prohibited.

· Unsafe equipment may result in disqualification.

· Bite equipment, collars, leashes, and muzzles may be inspected before competition.

Competition Rules

· Each division consists of specific tested scenarios and challenges.

· Scenarios may include realistic protection situations, tactical exercises, environmental stressors, and obedience under pressure.

· Dogs will be judged on courage, control, obedience, stability, engagement, recovery, and performance.

· Handlers must follow all judge and event staff instructions immediately.

· Unsportsmanlike conduct toward judges, decoys, or competitors will not be tolerated.

Youth Division Rules

· Youth competitors must follow all safety instructions.

· A parent or guardian must sign participation waivers for minors.

· Event staff may stop any scenario if safety becomes a concern.

Safety Policies

· Safety is the top priority for all events.

· No unauthorized contact with working dogs.

· Spectators must remain in designated areas.

· Firearms, weapons, or dangerous items are prohibited unless approved for controlled demonstrations.

· Medical emergencies or unsafe conditions may result in delays, cancellations, or modifications of scenarios.

Scoring & Disqualifications

Competitors may be disqualified for:

· Dog abuse or mistreatment

· Unsafe handling

· Failure to maintain control of the dog

· Cheating or dishonest conduct

· Use of prohibited equipment or substances

· Failure to follow event rules or judge instructions

Media Release

· By attending or participating, competitors and spectators agree that photos and videos may be used by K9 Gladiators Tournaments for promotional and media purposes.

Liability

· All participants assume full responsibility for any injury, damage, or loss caused by themselves or their dogs.

· K9 Gladiators Tournaments, staff, sponsors, property owners, and affiliates are not liable for injuries, accidents, theft, or damages during the event.

Final Authority

· K9 Gladiators Tournaments reserves the right to modify rules, divisions, scoring, or scenarios at any time to maintain fairness, professionalism, and safety.
